1923, the baby is born!
It was in Hollywood that brothers Walt and Roy founded Disney Brothers Studio, renamed Walt Disney Studio three years later. The two brothers began by making short silent films in black and white, then some time after the advent of color, they created a black-and-white mouse known today as Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse led to the creation of other iconic characters such as Donald Duck and Minnie. The company enjoyed great success when it began distributing magazines, comics, etc. in the United States. The Walt Disney Studio marks a significant evolution in animation.
1955, turn Disney into a theme park
The first Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. Its success prompted its creator to set up a second, much larger resort in Florida, dotted with hotels. Walt Disney, a visionary who died 11 years later, did not see the opening of many other parks, including Paris, and so did not witness the success they generated.
1984, company bought by Paramount (Michael Eisner)
Michael Eisner, chairman of Paramount, ushered in a new golden age for the Walt Disney Studio, directing films such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. He later set about creating a TV channel, called Disney Channel, and also created the first Disney Store. In 1995, Disney became a media empire.
2005, buybacks
New CEO Bob Eiger buys up as many competitors as possible, including Pixar and Lucasfilm.
In 2020, he launched the Disney+ streaming platform, which quickly made its mark and almost caught up with Netflix.
