First of all, what is Beaujolais?

First and foremost, it’s a natural region of the Rhône north of Lyon. Nonetheless, we remember its name not least because of the vineyards it harbors, the source of delicious French wines in six different forms, including Beaujolais Nouveau and Beaujolais Supérieur.

Why do we celebrate Beaujolais?

It all began in 1951 when a decree was issued forbidding winegrowers to market their wines before December 15 of their vintage year. The Beaujeu winegrowers were outraged, as they were accustomed to selling their wines before this date. They asked to be allowed to sell their en primeur wines before December 15, a request that was accepted on November 13, 1951, on one condition: that the wines be labelled ‘Nouveau’. This was the birth of Beaujolais Nouveau, marketed for the first time on November 15, 1951! In 1985, its official release date was set for the third Thursday in November, which quickly became the first time on November 15, 1951! In 1985, its official release date was set for the third Thursday in November, and over the years it quickly became a date celebrated and synonymous with festivities in France and the rest of the world.

What are the characteristics of Beaujolais?

Beaujolais is a light, easy-drinking, affordable and very fruity wine. Indeed, the characteristic aromas of Beaujolais Nouveau are red fruit, English candy and banana, giving the wines expressive flavors.
