Paris to Champagne
private chauffeur

About a hundred and fifty kilometres east of Paris, and a region rather than a single destination. Deciding where to go matters more than deciding how many houses to visit.

Reims and Épernay are two different days

Reims

A city, with a cathedral that shaped French history and several of the largest houses within it. Cellars here are deep chalk galleries, and everything sits close enough together to combine a visit with lunch and the cathedral.

Épernay

A small town built around one celebrated avenue, with the vineyard slopes immediately above it. Quieter, more concentrated, and closer to the grower villages if that is what interests you.

Trying to do both properly in one day leaves you with a great deal of driving and two rushed visits. We say so before you book rather than after.

Great houses or growers

The famous names offer structured, ticketed visits that are often booked out weeks ahead, particularly at weekends. Small growers receive fewer visitors, frequently by appointment only, and the welcome is more personal but the logistics less forgiving : a missed slot cannot simply be moved.

Either way, the visits are arranged by you directly with the producers. We do not book tastings on your behalf and claim no privileged access. What we do is build the day’s driving around the times you have secured.

The point of a chauffeur here

It is not comfort, although the motorway east is an easy drive. It is that a day in Champagne involves tasting, and that the roads between villages are narrow, winding and unlit after dark.

With a chauffeur, nobody has to abstain, watch the clock, or navigate back to Paris in the evening. The car waits during each visit and the schedule bends if a tasting runs long.

Practical points worth knowing

  1. Plan two visits, three at most — beyond that the day becomes a schedule rather than an experience.
  2. Book lunch — restaurants in the villages are small and fill quickly, and the afternoon is difficult without it.
  3. Harvest season is different — in September the vineyards are working, some houses limit visits and the lanes carry machinery.
  4. Think about what you will buy — several cases take real boot space. Tell us in advance and we send a vehicle that can carry them.

Frequently asked

How long is the drive ?

Roughly an hour and a half to two hours each way depending on the destination and the traffic leaving Paris. We do not guarantee a duration.

Do you arrange the tastings ?

No. Visits are booked directly with the houses or growers. Send us your confirmed times and we build the day around them.

Is a full day necessary ?

For Champagne from Paris, yes. The driving alone occupies three hours or so, which is why we do not sell this as a half-day.

Can we stay overnight instead ?

Many people do, and it makes for a better trip. We can take you out one day and collect you the next.

Where else do you go from Paris ?

See Paris to Versailles and Paris to Normandy.
